Understanding what is needed, what the end result should be, is the first step to developing a plan to meet that need. This is of paramount importance, if you don’t understand the needs that you need to meet, it’s impossible to achieve that objective. Once the needs and objectives have been clearly identified comprehensive tools must be developed and provided to ensure that the teachers and staff on site can deliver the content successfully. This all seems obvious, if not common sense and is all the more reason to have a professional on hand to ensure that the plan that is developed will in fact meet the needs of the organization. I am extremely excited to be taking my past experience in Information Technology and blend it with Education Technology planning moving forward.

I agree that keeping the end result in focus is a must when developing a technology plan. It’s very easy to get caught up in the newest products/software without scrutinizing whether it will actually help accomplish objectives. As for having a professional on hand to help, are you suggesting districts hire a technology consultant to look over the plan or appreciating that we will be able to put our skills to use?
